Josephine Chisholm

Winchester-based Josephine Chisholm has been painting for many years and originally studied graphic design at Bristol. She is known for her love of colour, with her contemporary and impressionistic paintings reflecting her optimism and enthusiasm for life – her joie de vivre.

Her work is inspired by travels abroad and locally – whether cities around the world or outstanding scenery in places such as Chile or Canada – and a sketch book is very important to her for recording what she sees and for noting ideas for painting.

Josephine uses a variety of mediums – acrylic, watercolour, gouache, pastels, pen and wash and oil – and is inspired by urban life, landscapes and seascapes, beach life and allotments, people and parties, cats, cafes, bars and restaurants and dancing people!

She has exhibited widely including at the Minster Gallery in Winchester, where she has been a gallery artist, and at the Agora Gallery in New York. She has also had many commissions, including illustrations for children’s books, and for four years had a stall at Winchester Christmas Market where she sold a variety of prints and artworks. She runs art classes for adults and offers one to one art tuition.
