John Goldsworthy

John Goldsworthy is a self-taught watercolour artist who has been based in Scotland for more than three decades.

His inspiration comes from a fascination for people and in particular the connection humans have with music, which he describes as “a tonic that can empower our everyday lives… it serves as tribal and binding force; it lets us dance, self-express and release our emotions.”

John is a fan of all musical genres, from choral to hip hop, ballet to techno, classical to metal, and regards music as an invisible bond that unites people around the globe.

The aim of his artwork is to explore and unravel the musical energy that he sees all around him. This is captured in his paintings, which often feature music notes, piano keys and instruments that create a lyrical, rhythmical and whimsical quality to his paintings.

John has previously worked in a variety of fields, including range ecology, landscape and portrait photography, writing and running a photographic exhibition print company.
