Anya Simmons is known for her vibrant and colourful depictions of coastal landscapes, whimsical harbours, quirky worlds and the ever-changing British countryside. 

The artist was born in Uganda in 1969 and spent her early childhood immersed in the vibrant cultures of Africa before moving to the UK – a rich tapestry of experiences that has profoundly shaped the diversity and creativity found in her art. 

Anya initially studied for a Bachelor of Education degree in art and design, later becoming a primary school teacher. But her passion for art led her to focus fully on her creative practice, culminating in her first solo exhibition in 2005. She has since become known for her expressive, individual style and exhibits widely across galleries and art fairs in the UK.

She works mainly in mixed media, combining acrylics, gesso, inks, collage and mark making materials. Her distinctive approach blends texture, bold colours and imaginative scenes that evoke both place and spirit – she seeks to capture fleeting moments and transform them into lasting impressions.
